Revue of Now You See me 2
Initial Release Date: June 9, 2016
Genre: Thriller
Directed By: John M. Chu
Following the success of the first installment Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson and Lizzy Caplan (the four horsemen) return for the second part, this time are forced to do one more heist by Walter (Daniel Radcliffe). Their mission is to steal a super chip that can take over every computer in the world. Meanwhile, Dylan (Mark Ruffalo) and Thaddeus (Morgan Freeman) are having a go at each other, settling old scores.
When Nigerians get a text from Mr. John that your ATM card has been blocked because of BVN issues and you will need to send your ATM PIN to reactivate it, we immediately recognize the fraud. That’s exactly the same thing that happened to me when I saw this movie. Let me explain. I expected to be deceived so I was mentally prepared to see through their tricks. Like we say in Naija " You cant job a job man". The producers of this movie always knew that it was going to be an uphill task to deceive an audience who were already expecting to be deceived so they had to up their game. Unfortunately, in the attempt to hoodwink us, the movie became rather ludicrous bordering on absurdity.
I am not saying it was a bad movie, quite the contrary, it was enjoyable but it just seemed to be trying too hard to top the first installment and you can ask anyone, second installments hardly every do better than the first (except that movie is Terminator; Judgment Day). Including a personal vendetta between Dylan and Thaddeaus in the plot seemed an over kill but I guess it was necessary to add a new dimension to the movie.
By the way, I did notice the sprinkling of Asian cast - marketing strategy huh?
There were a few laughs in the movie and some successful deception, so Now You See me 2 earns 6.9/10 on my awesome-o-meter.
Come back again would ya?
Piss out!

I'm never a big fan of sequels, some good movies should just be left alone but ehh money must be made and we gon still watch this, well I know one place where the second installment is always better....nah no need to deviate
ReplyDeleteThe rate at which you 'revue' these movies is becoming annoying. Shuo! Na only movie you dey watch ni?!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely beating you to the next movie. You cannot watch it before me again. *Game face on*
Just watched it and I think the wow! Factor of the first movie was missing. They were virtually helped out in all the beautiful moves. Like the guy that was at the vault who ended up been part of the 'eye'. Hope there won't be a 3!!!
