Revue of Keanu

Initial Release Date:  April 29, 2016
Genre: Comedy/Action
Directed By: Peter Atencio

Keanu is about Rell (Jordan Peele) who was recently dumped by his longtime girlfriend, and while mourning the heartbreak, a strange cat winds up at his doorstep and he forges a friendship with it. If only he knew the history of that cat, he would have just kicked it back out in the street. However, Rell’s house is robbed and his cat is taken by Cheddar (Method Man) a notorious gangster so he enlists the help of his cousin Clarence (Keegan Michael- key) to help him get the cat back. This is easier said than done because what started as a quest to get a cat turned suddenly escalates into a bloodbath.

I am a fan of the Key & Peele sketches but when I saw the trailer for Keanu, I was nervous that they were gonna blow it because full length movies is not really their turf…but I was pleasantly surprised! Although, Keanu did feel like an extended version of one of their skits, but it did leave me in stitches with its hilarity.

Key & Peele were ridiculously funny especially the duos (failed) attempt to pass off as bad ass gangsters, they weren't fooling anyone. Anna Farris, also made an appearance as a crazed junkie and make sure you look out for Will Forte as a hip-hop loving, corn rows rocking weed dealer. Was it just me or did I notice a sly reference to the movie John Wick which title character was played by a certain actor coincidentally also called Keanu (Reeves)?

Keanu has proved what I have known for a looooong time; that you cannot mess with cat power. People love cats and that is why cat videos are the most searched videos on the internet and why many people will love this movie. The producers even harnessed the cat power by getting people worked up with parody posters.

Because I enjoyed Keanu (and I love cats) it earns a 6.9/ 10 on my awesome-o-meter. I dare you to see it and not drool over that cutie cat.

Oh, by the way, when the credits finish rolling, there was a little something which if you blink, you could miss. Sequel anyone?

In other news, cats will kill us all and take over the world.

The End.

  1. Complete and Utter nonsense...what genre is this even? definitely not a comedy in any form. i am just upset and totally disapointed in Key and Peele, and also The Maveriq for even bothering to rate this movie (7.0/10 cos of the Cat, please watch discovery channel for that). i am also upset with myself for even commenting on how much i hated this movie. one word for how i should feel.APATHY!!!!!

You obviously just rated this entire movie based on your love for cats! It was a shitty downright boring body of work. This is pure evidence of how people can be successful at one thing and failures at another. Theses fellas should stick to skits or stand up! At least we can credit them with creating a new movie genre...BRAIN DEAD! Contains scenes with zero humour, poor dialogue, predictable plot...hold on the twist and is guaranteed to incite Zombie-like characteristics! Not suitable for the persons who want to stay alive! Rated DEAD!
