Revue of The Huntsman; Winter’s War.

Genre; Fantasy
Directed By; Cedric Nicolas-Troyan

Ladies and gentlemen, the thirst in Hollywood has reached new heights (or lows). Who had a lightbulb moment and thought that “Huntsman” (based on the fairytale of Snow-white) needs a prequel. There are only a handful of prequels that redeem the sequel; movies like Star Wars are one of those few. Unfortunately, this movie falls into one of those prequels which should not have been conceived or considered.

This installment takes us back to when Eric the Huntsman’s (Chris Hemsworth) childhood and how he became the Huntsman we meet in the first movie. We are also introduced to the Queen Freeya aka The Ice Queen (Emily Blunt) who is the sister to the vanquished Ravenna (Charlize Theron).

The Ice queen is a tyrannical ruler who in her bid for world domination invades towns, kill the occupants, sieze the town’s children who are trained till adulthood as Huntsmen.  She is also in the hunt for the Magical Mirror previously owned by her sister Ravenna. Again, Eric and his love interest Sara (Jessica Chastain) are here to save the day.

I really don’t know where to start with this movie. The story line was pretty weak and the plot rather predictable. It was full of boring fight scenes and cliche ladden dialogue.  For some strange reason I kept expecting someone to break into song and start singing “Let it go, Let it go”.

On the bright side, Hemsworth was his usual charming self so I guess the ladies will get a kick out of seeing this movie. However, *spoiler alert* he had his shirt on most of the time, and when he did manage to take it off, it was for a short period which went unnoticed by my humble self because I was concentrating on  Sara’s brief side boob exposure.

When you go to the cinema to watch this movie, don’t expect some radical unexpected plot twist okay. Infact, don’t expect anything, just watch it and move on.

I will give Huntsman: Winter’s War 4.8/ 10 on my awesome-o-meter.
